That's because the old consoles and game cartridges aren't available now. Imagine how rare is a working NES and a Super Mario Bros. and other cartridges sold nowadays.

Of course there is a Wii Virtual Console where you can buy and download old games, but who would buy a Wii just for that? Some people cannot afford its price, like me. And emulation and copying ROMs is absolutely free, even if illegal.

1.If someone buys a Wii, he can play old games and can play new games too!

2.Emulation is legal! Copying ROMs is illegal!

Don't forget that not all games are available on the Virtual Console, for example Earthbound/Mother 2. Another example, Mother 3 wasn't released outside Japan, so the only choices are to import the game and play it in Japanese (which most of us don't know), or download the ROM and use this awesome fan translation.

In China you can buy a NES easily and it's VERY cheap... I saw a guy bought an NES for only ￥25(about $3.2)... there are many cheap cardridges too, but most are pirate X in 1......
I never seen any SFC, N64 or NGC on sale, I only saw NES and Wii. (Oldest and newest......)

Yep, the architecture of the NES can be integrated into a single chip, making it very cheap.
